Notes: Alternative surnames include Hempston and Hemstone. (2) Reported originally buried on Hempstone family farm (owned subsequently by Griffith family) but moved to Monocacy Cemetery. (4) Mont. Co. Cemetery Inventory records indicate that headstone only may have been moved (see cemetery ID # 286). (3) Feb. 19, 1819 Treasurer of MD directed to pay him the half pay of a private. March 7, 1834 balance due William Hempston, deceased, ordered paid to his son, Nathan T. Hempston. (2) Grave marking details from Carol Cummings per Sept. 8, 2013 e-mail. July 2014 site visit showed no evidence of DAR marker. However, text on headstone reads "MD. MIL. REV. War". Cemetery location listed in DAR Magazine Vol. 51 #4 Oct. 1917 p. 205.
